Mom, Music Teacher,Christian Music Video Producer, Local Missionary, Christina Lee
I waited longer to experience motherhood than
most women. At thirty-six, I gave birth to my
dream child. She was all I had ever hoped for.
On a Sunday morning when she was two, she asked
if we could go to the altar and pray for God to
give us a baby. It was two years later before we
were able to tell her she was going to be a big
sister.
I soon discovered that the baby was due the
same week as her fifth birthday, and the week she
would start kindergarten. I panicked instantly.
How could we adapt to a new baby and kindergarten all in the same week?
I began researching Christian preschools, and
ended up bartering with one that needed a music
teacher. I enjoyed teaching songs to young
children very much- and the idea that I could
be near my daughter on the morning I worked
there.
I noticed that the songs the children liked
the most were the ones that involved motions. It
wasn't long before I had developed motions for
all of the music I used and began calling the
concept "Praise In Motion".
I didn't plan to continue working after our
darling baby girl came along, but by the time she
was born, I was fully aware of the incredible
mission field which exists in the Christian
daycare. I learned that a large percentage of the
children do not come from Christian homes.
Many of the songs I was teaching the children
were songs I had learned in Sunday School when I
was their age, so I knew they were capable of
remembering the messages throughout their lives
and that they would probably go home singing the
songs to their famiiles.
It is now six years later. Today, I work with
over 400 children and do 16 programs a week. I
have developed a series of three professionally
produced audio and video tapes demonstrating the
motions I use with the songs which I have found
the children like best. My husband and children
are involved in our production work and it is a
big part of our life.
The tapes each contain 12 songs and are great
for home use or in child care centers and
churches. The videos may be used for "sing-along"
sessions or as a training tool for teachers who
want to learn the motions from the video and
then perform the songs "live" in the classroom
using the companion audio cassettes.
In addition to "sing-along" materials, I have
a "Praise In Motion" Basic Training (approx.70
min.) on video and audio cassette which would
enable any person who can carry a tune to learn
to do what I do and find work in this field.
Teaching "Praise In Motion" is wonderful
for moms with young children, since they can
often barter for the childcare they may need in
order to work.
